The Cucumber Sumac Margarita

Certified ayurvedic practitioner and lifestyle coach Talya Lutzker of Santa Cruz empowers women around health and self-care so they can feel energized, strong and vital at all ages. She also dabbles in what she calls “a refreshingly tart and earthy” take on a classic lemon-forward mocktail big on cuke-centric vitamin C. “Wildly delicious,” she says, “with a tangy flavor profile that’s visually vibrant.”

2 porzioni

Ingredienti

  • 1 teaspoon mineral-rich salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground sumac
  • 1 cup limeade or lemonade*
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime or lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 medium cucumber, roughly chopped
  • Optional: Maple syrup or liquid stevia to taste
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup still or sparkling water

Preparazione

  1. 1

Mix the salt and sumac together on a small plate.

  2. 2

Wet the rim of your two favorite 8-ounce glasses. Sweep the rims in salt and sumac.

  3. 3

Combine the limeade, fresh lime juice, apple cider vinegar and cucumber in a blender. Sweeten to taste with maple syrup or stevia.

  4. 4

Pour the mixture into each glass. Add the mint and still or sparkling water. Muddle with a tall spoon and enjoy!

  5. 5

--- *PREFER TO USE LIMEADE MADE FROM SCRATCH? ---

  6. 6

Zest one or two limes and set the lime zest aside. Combine 2 cups of water, ¾ cup sugar or maple syrup and 1 cup of fresh lime or lemon juice in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat, cool completely, add the lime zest and refrigerate.

  7. 7

Ice is optional, but does not keep with Ayurvedic tradition, which holds that chilled beverages dampen digestive intensity (agni).
