Churros with chocolate sauce from the air fryer

Classic churros with a rich chocolate sauce, made in the air fryer. Less fat, just as tasty and ready in no time.

4 servings

Ingredients

  • 240 ml water
  • 60 g unsalted butter
  • a pinch of salt
  • 150 g all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs (medium)
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil (for brushing)
  • 50 g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 150 ml heavy cream
  • 100 g dark chocolate (minimum 60%), coarsely chopped
  • a pinch of salt (for the sauce)

Instructions

  1. 1

Put the water, butter and salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat.Remove the pan from the heat and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together into a smooth ball.Let the dough cool for 5 minutes. Then add the eggs one at a time, stirring well between each addition until the dough is smooth and slightly glossy.Put the dough in a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe strips of about 10 cm onto a piece of parchment paper that fits in your air fryer.Preheat the air fryer to 200°C. Lightly brush the churros with a little sunflower oil and bake them for 12 to 14 minutes until golden brown and crispy. You can bake them in two batches if needed.Meanwhile, mix the sugar and ground cinnamon in a shallow dish. Roll the warm churros through it as soon as they come out of the air fryer.Make the chocolate sauce: heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until just below boiling. Remove from the heat, add the chopped dark chocolate and stir gently until you have a smooth, glossy sauce. Add a pinch of salt for depth.Serve the churros immediately with the chocolate sauce on the side. Best enjoyed while still warm.
