How to make Samak Mashwi (Arabic Spiced Fish)
Ingredients
- 2 large fish of choice
- 1 lemon (halved)
- 1 tbsp rock salt
- 2 tsp cumin powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 dried lemon (grated)
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 5 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp salt

Combine ingredients for the marinade in a large bowl & mix well to form a smooth paste.

Clean fish thoroughly, make some slits on both sides, sprinkle salt & rub lemon on it to remove any strong fishy smell.

Brush marinade all over fish, especially between the slits & inside its cavities, set aside for 30 mins.

Preheat oven set on grilling mode at 200 deg C & line a baking tray with aluminium foil.

Place fish, arrange lemon slices on top, cook for 10 mins, carefully flip the fish over & cook for another 10 mins.

Use a fork to check if fish is cooked through, remove from oven & serve immediately with sides of choice.
