Hunan Chicken Recipe
Traditional Hunan Chicken is a Chinese stir fry dish of tender chicken, vegetables, and a sticky, sweet and spicy sauce. It’s perfect for meal prep and takes just a few minutes to bring together.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts (thinly sliced)
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 3 Tbsp olive oil (divided)
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 8 oz mushrooms (sliced)
- 1/2 onion (sliced)
- 1 red bell pepper (seeded and diced)
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 2/3 cup chicken broth
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 2 tsp garlic chili sauce
- 2 tsp cornstarch

Place the chicken and 1/3 cornstarch in a resealable plastic bag, shake to coat evenly.

Heat the oil in a large pan over high heat.

Add the chicken to the pan in a single layer and season to taste with salt and pepper.

Cook for 3 - 4 minutes per side or until golden brown, cooking in multiple batches if needed.

Remove the chicken from the pan and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain the excess oil.

Add the broccoli, onion, and mushrooms into the skillet and cook until tender.

Add the chicken back to the pan with the vegetables.

In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic, butter, chicken broth, soy sauce, white vinegar, honey, chili sauce, and 2 teaspoons of cornstarch.
