Tomato bath is a flavorful version of tomato rice prepared in Karnataka. Let's see how to make it at home easily with step by step photos.
📝 Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice (cook & cool down)
- 4 Tomato
- 2 Onion
- 2 tsp Crushed ginger garlic (See note 1)
- 1 tsp Red chilli powder (Kashmiri / mild version)
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/4 cup Coriander leaves (chopped)
- Salt
- 2 tbsp Ghee (or sesame oil)
- 1/4 cup Coconut (grated)
- 8 Small onion
- 1 Cinnamon (1/2 inch, small piece)
- 1 Cardamom
- 1 Cloves
- 5 Green chillies (Mild spiced)
- 1 tbsp Oil1 tbsp
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- 1/2 tsp Urad dal (Ulutham paruppu)
- 1 tsp Chana dal (Kadala paruppu)
- 1 sprig Curry leaves (Optional)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1Pressure cook rice and cool down to make sure that the rice grains are separate. I cooked rice in 1: 1 & 1/4 ratio with water, up to 3 whistles.
- 2Chop tomato finely and slice onions length wise.
- 3Grind the ingredients under the To Grind table - coconut, small onion, with little water, keep aside.
- 4Heat a heavy bottomed pan with oil and add the tempering items given in order.
- 5Then add the onions and fry till soft.
- 6Add the chopped tomatoes, red chilli powder, turmeric and enough salt that is required for the rice and cook in medium flame, till it becomes mushy.
- 7Add crushed ginger garlic, ground coconut mixture and mix well.
- 8Add some oil or ghee to cook easily without getting burnt or stuck.
- 9Cook in medium flame till raw smell goes away and becomes shiny/ non sticky.
- 10Mix this to the cooked cooled rice carefully and add the chopped coriander leaves if desired.
