Prepared with a few simple ingredients, like flour, baking soda, sugar, buttermilk, and traditional holiday spices, this Spiced Holiday Bread is so delicious when smeared liberally with butter and served with a cup of hot tea. It’s really good toasted too!
📝 Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3/4 cup buttermilk ((plus 1 tablespoon))
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a bread pan with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside for now.
- 2In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice.
- 3Pour in the buttermilk (3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon) and stir together with a fork until buttermilk has been absorbed into the flour mixture.
- 4Transfer to a lightly floured surface. Knead together to form a rustic oval shape. Do not need more than 30 seconds!
- 5Place the oval into the greasted bread pan. Bake for 40 minutes.
- 6Remove from oven and allow the bread to rest for 5 minutes before turning it out onto a wire cooling rack to cool.
- 7Wait 20 minutes before slicing. Bread can be served warm, at room temperature, or toasted.
