Sugar Cookies are a mandate around this time of the year, and we made it extra special with the flavor of chocolate. This Chocolate Sugar Cookies are so easy to make and perfect for beginners too. I used a cookie stamp press and kept it simple, without any icing on it.
📝 Ingredients
- 1 and 1/2 stick softened (not melted unsalted butter)
- 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
- 1 egg kept at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons orange zest
- 1 and 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- pinch of salt
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1In a mixing bowl, whisk the butter with sugar.
- 2Sprinkle salt, orange zest and 1 egg. Whisk to mix.
- 3In a bowl add the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder. Whisk to mix.
- 4Sift the dry ingredient to the butter and using a rubber spatula mix it to form a dough. Do not over mix or knead.
- 5Wrap the dough in a clear wrap and place in the fridge to chill the dough for 2 hours.
- 6When rolling the dough, dust a little cocoa powder and then roll the dough using gentle pressure. Roll it to 1/4 inch thick.
- 7Using the cookie cutter, cut out the dough into multiple shapes and place in a cookie sheet. Place the cookie sheet back in the fridge while you preheat the oven.
- 8Preheat the oven to 350 F and bake the cookies, placing the sheet in the middle rack for 10 minutes.
- 9Once done, take the cookie sheet out and let the cookies cool down in the hot cookie sheet for 2 minutes.
- 10Then remove the cookies from the sheet to the wire rack to cool it down completely.
