Fresh Tomato-Basil Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter
  • 1 medium (1/2 cup) onion, finely chopped
  • 4 teaspoons finely chopped fresh garlic
  • 3 medium (2 1/2 cups) tomatoes, seeded, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Italian-style tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves *
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

    Melt butter in 2-quart saucepan until sizzling; add onion and garlic. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 3-4 minutes or until onion is softened.

    Add tomatoes, tomato paste, 2 tablespoons basil and salt; continue cooking 1-2 minute or until mixture comes to a boil. Reduce heat to medium. Cook, stirring occasionally, 10-12 minutes or until tomatoes are softened.

    Remove from heat; stir in remaining basil.

    Spoon sauce over hot cooked linguine, angel hair (capellini) pasta or fettuccine.
