These crispy Home Fried Potatoes are a classic breakfast side dish made with simple ingredients and cooked until golden brown. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a hearty side for any meal.

📝 Ingredients

  • 2-3 lbs russet potatoes (scrubbed and cubed into 3/4-inch pieces)
  • 1 large sweet or yellow onion (diced)
  • 4 Tbsp vegetable oil ((OR bacon grease) )
  • 2 Tbsp salted or unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp granulated garlic or garlic powder
  • green onions for garnishing (optional)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1Cut potatoes into 3/4-inch pieces. (Peel or peel intact)
  2. 2Heat 2 Tbsp oil in a 12 inch cast iron skillet or a large, deep stainless steel skillet over medium-high. Add onions. Cook for 2 minutes just until softened and translucent then use a slotted spoon to remove them from the pan. Set aside.
  3. 3Add the remaining oil and the butter to the skillet. Add the cubed potatoes, turning to coat. Cover and cook over medium-low for 15 minutes. Check and gently stir every 5 minutes.
  4. 4Uncover and add the seasoned salt, black pepper, granulated garlic and onions tossing together until combined.
  5. 5Cook 10 minutes longer uncovered, flipping potatoes every 5 minutes. Cook until the potatoes are tender on the inside and golden brown on the outside. (If cooking in batches, add a drizzle of oil to the pan between each batch.)
  6. 6Serve immediately garnished with green onions or parsley.
