Patacones are slices of fried green plantain, usually eaten as a side dish or an appetizer.

📝 Ingredients

  • 1 green, unripe, plantain
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • salt

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1Cut plantain in 8 pieces, about 2 cm per piece. Remove skin
  2. 2Warm up the oil for frying in a fry pan/skillet. A shallow layer of oil will be enough
  3. 3Fry the pieces of plantain for 2-3 minutes per side
  4. 4Take them out and put them on paper towels to drain any excess oil
  5. 5Press them one by one into discs, either with a patacon press or with a cutting board. Use non-stick paper. See more elaborate instructions at the beginning of the post
  6. 6Check temperature of oil and fry patacones until golden, about 2 minutes per side. Depending on the size of your pan you will need to do this in batches
  7. 7Take the patacones out and put them on paper towels. Sprinkle salt on them
  8. 8Serve while warm with hogao (recipe link in blogpost), or just as they are
