This Spaghetti Amatriciana is a milder alternative to Arrabbiata and is perfect if you're counting calories or following a plan like Weight Watchers.
📝 Ingredients
- 325 g spaghetti
- 400 g tin chopped tomatoes
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 100 g bacon medallions
- 1/2 tsp chilli flakes
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato puree
- 15 g Pecorino cheese (finely grated)
- pinch of granulated sweetener or sugar
- low calorie cooking spray
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1Spray a pan with low calorie cooking spray.
- 2Sauté the bacon and onions over a medium heat for 10-15 minutes, until the bacon crisps and the onions soften and caramelise.
- 3Cook: Stir in the chilli flakes and tomato puree and cook for 30 seconds.
- 4Add the tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce, stir and increase the heat until the sauce bubbles.
- 5Simmer: Reduce the heat and allow to gently simmer for 15 minutes.
- 6Cook: Meanwhile, bring a pan of salted water to the boil and cook the spaghetti according to packet instructions, usually between 9-12 minutes.
- 7Stir: When cooked, drain the spaghetti and add to the pan of sauce. Stir to coat the spaghetti well.
- 8Divide into 4 pasta bowls and top with a sprinkling of grated Pecorino and some freshly ground black pepper.
