This Filipino-style pork steak features tender pork chops marinated in soy sauce and calamansi, then pan-fried and simmered until fork-tender. The savory-tangy sauce pairs perfectly with steamed rice for a satisfying home-cooked meal.
📝 Ingredients
- 4 pieces pork chops
- 5 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 pieces lime or calamansi (juiced)
- 2 pieces onions (sliced)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated white sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup cooking oil
- salt and ground black pepper (to taste)
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1Combine pork chops, soy sauce, and lime juice in a large bowl or resealable bag. Marinate for at least 1 hour.
- 2Heat a pan and pour in cooking oil.
- 3Pan fry the marinated pork chops over medium heat for 3 minutes per side. Remove the pork chops and set aside.
- 4Using the remaining oil, sauté the garlic until it starts to brown.
- 5Add half of the onions. Sauté until the onion softens.
- 6Pour in the remaining marinade and water. Add back the pork chops and simmer for 45 minutes or until the pork is tender. Add water as needed.
- 7Add the sugar, salt, and pepper, then stir.
- 8Put in the remaining onions and cook for 3 minutes more.
- 9Turn off heat and transfer to a serving plate.
