Cherry Turnovers with Cream Cheese and Almonds

These delicious puff pastry turnovers are filled with sweet cherries & cream cheese, and topped with roasted almonds and vanilla glaze.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp (11g) quick cooking tapioca
- 1 tbsp (15ml) fresh lemon juice
- 8 oz (about 1 heaping cup) fresh or frozen sweet cherries, pitted
- 1/4 cup (1oz) dried cherries (optional)
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp (7g) cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract, divided
- 1 tsp almond extract (optional)
- One 17.3 oz. package frozen puff pastry dough
- 4 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
- 2/3 cup (75g) powdered sugar
- 1 large egg, separated
- 1/4 cup (50g) roasted salted almonds, finely chopped
- 1 cup (113g) powdered sugar
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 1-2 tbsp (15-30ml) milk
