Ingredients

  • 5 slices bread
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk ((Or plant-based milk))
  • 1 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 4 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract ((optional))
  • 12 small strawberries

Instructions

  1. 1

Wash and dry the strawberries, remove the leaves. Dice half of the strawberries into small pieces, leave the rest of the strawberries intact.

  2. 2

Add heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to a large mixing bowl, whip with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form. Cover the bowl with plastic food wrap, keep in the fridge. (You can skip this step if you are going to use canned whipped cream.)

  3. 3

Tear 5 slices of bread into small pieces, use a food processor to blend them into bread crumbs. (Depending on the size of your food processor, you may need to blend the breads in several batches.)

  4. 4

Pour the bread crumbs into a large mixing bowl, add sugar, cocoa powder, and milk to the bowl. Mix well with clean hands, knead the mixture into a dough. (See Note 1)

  5. 5

Evenly divided the dough into two halves, place one piece of the dough into a sandwich bag, seal the bag, use a rolling pin to flatten the dough into a rectangle. (See Note 2)

  6. 6

Use a pair of scissors to trim off the two side edges of the Ziploc bag, peel off the bag from the flattened dough. Turn the cake box upside down on the dough to cut the dough into shape of the box. For total, you should be able to get 4 pieces of rectangle dough that's about 4½'' x 2½''.

  7. 7

Place a piece of rectangle bread cake on the bottom of the cake box, pipe (or spread with a spoon) a layer of whipped cream, add a layer of diced strawberries.

  8. 8

Cover with another layer of rectangle bread cake, pipe (or spread with a spoon) a layer of whipped cream on the top. Optionally pipe some stars along the edge of the cake, then put 3 intact strawberries on top of the cake as decoration. Feel free to decorate the cake any way you like.

  9. 9

Ideally refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Storage: cover with plastic food wrap, store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
