Nigerian Fish Stew is a flavorful and appetizing African fish stew made with tilapia fish and cooked in a spicy fragrant combination of tomatoes and peppers. It truly is incredibly delicious!

📝 Ingredients

  • 1 lb tilapia fish
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 habanero pepper
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup stock/water
  • 1 tbsp bouillon powder
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1Wash and clean the tilapia fish.
  2. 2Cut the fish into 5 - 6 medium pieces and deep fry till crispy.
  3. 3Blend the tomatoes, bell pepper, and habanero pepper.
  4. 4Sauté the onions in olive oil.
  5. 5After about a minute, add the blended tomatoes and pepper.
  6. 6Boil for about 10 minutes on medium-low heat.
  7. 7Add the stock/water.
  8. 8Taste for salt first, then add the bouillon powder, thyme, black pepper.
  9. 9Add the salt last.
  10. 10Bring to a boil, then add the fish.
  11. 11Simmer for 5-10 minutes while stirring as little as possible.
  12. 12Your African Fish Stew is ready to serve!
