Soft, fluffy strawberry doughnuts coated in a sweet strawberry sugar made with freeze-dried strawberries. A fun homemade treat that's perfect any time of day.

📝 Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1/2 stick butter (softened )
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp strawberry extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Strawberry Sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup freeze-dried strawberries

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1Add the warm milk, sugar, and yeast to a bowl. Mix and let sit for a few minutes until slightly foamy.
  2. 2Add the egg and strawberry extract, then mix.
  3. 3Add the flour and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. 4Add the softened butter and knead until the dough becomes smooth and elastic, about 5 to 6 minutes.
  5. 5Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  6. 6Shape the dough using either the dough ball method or the classic doughnut cutter method.
  7. 7Cover and let rise again until puffy. To check if they’re ready, gently poke one with your finger. If it springs back slowly and leaves a slight dent, it’s ready to fry.
  8. 8Heat oil to about 330°F (165°C).
  9. 9Carefully lift each doughnut using the parchment paper and gently lower it into the oil.
  10. 10Fry for about 2 to 3 minutes on the first side. Flip and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown on both sides.
  11. 11Remove and place on a paper towel lined tray.
  12. 12After each batch, allow the oil to come back up to temperature before frying the next batch.
  13. 13Blend the freeze-dried strawberries into a fine powder and mix with the granulated sugar.
  14. 14While the doughnuts are still warm, toss them in the strawberry sugar until well coated.
  15. 15Serve and enjoy.
