Ingredients

  • 12 fresh figs, halved
  • 12 thin slices prosciutto
  • 4 ounces fresh goat cheese
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • Freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice and stuff the figs: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Slice the figs in half lengthwise. Using your thumb or the handle of a wooden spoon, gently press a deep indentation into the center of each fig half. Fill each indentation with a spoonful of goat cheese. Editor’s Tip: Give the figs a gentle rinse and pat them dry before slicing. If the stems feel especially tough or woody, you can trim them off. Otherwise, whole figs are edible.

  2. 2

Wrap the figs: Cut each slice of prosciutto in half lengthwise, then wrap one piece around each stuffed fig half.

  3. 3

Bake: Arrange the prosciutto-wrapped figs cut side down on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Using tongs, carefully turn the figs over, then bake two to three minutes longer or until the prosciutto is lightly crisped and browned around the edges. Editor’s Tip: Don’t overbake the figs! They should be warm and slightly softened, but not collapsed.

  4. 4

Finish and serve: Transfer the warm figs to a serving platter. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and finish with freshly cracked black pepper. Serve warm.
