Ingredientes
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats*
- 1 cup milk (of choice)
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 small apple (1/2-inch diced)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Chopped toasted pecans
- 2 tablespoons chia seeds, flaxseeds, and/or peanut butter (optional)
- 1 large firm, crisp apple (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji, 1/2-inch diced)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons pure maple syrup
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
Modo de preparo
- 1
Combine: In a medium saucepan, combine the oats, milk, water, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt, and any optional additions, such as chia seeds, flaxseed, and/or peanut butter. Heat over medium-high until the liquid reaches a low, gentle boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
- 2
Simmer: Add the apple. Continue simmering, stirring periodically, until the oatmeal is creamy and has absorbed most of the liquid, about 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
- 3
Sauté: While the oatmeal cooks, make the topping: Heat medium skillet over medium low heat. Melt the butter. Add the apples, maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt. Let cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and tender but not mushy, about 8 minutes. Taste and adjust the sweetness, cinnamon, or salt as you like.
- 4
Serve the oatmeal hot, topped with the sauteed apples and pecans.
