- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80-85% lean)
- 1 yellow onion (chopped)
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 4 (1 cup) button mushrooms (diced)
- 1/2 red bell pepper (diced)
- 1 can (23oz) tomato sauce
- 3 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth (chicken broth or water)
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp oregano (or italian seasoning)
- 1 tsp sugar
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spatula until browned. Drain excess grease, leaving about 1 tbsp behind.
- 2Add onion and garlic and cook for about a minute. Add bell pepper, mushrooms, salt and pepper, and saute until softened, for about 3 minutes.
- 3Stir in tomato sauce, beef broth, tomato paste, oregano, and sugar, and mix well to combine. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
