These Healthier Homemade Cheese Crackers are a fun, kid-friendly snack that tastes like a better-for-you version of the store-bought version!
📝 Ingredients
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour (or white whole wheat flour)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp cold unsalted butter (cubed)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika (optional)
- 2-4 tbsp cold water
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1Add shredded cheddar cheese, whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, cold butter, salt, garlic powder, and paprika to a food processor. Pulse until the mixture looks crumbly and sandy.
- 2Add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time, pulsing after each addition, until the dough begins to come together. The dough should hold together when pressed but should not feel sticky.
- 3Form the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes. Chilling makes the dough easier to roll and helps the crackers hold their shape.
- 4Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll dough between two pieces of parchment paper until very thin, about ⅛ inch thick. Cut into small squares with a pizza cutter, knife, or mini cookie cutters.
- 5Transfer crackers to the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12–16 minutes, or until the crackers are lightly golden around the edges and crisp. Smaller crackers may bake faster, so check early.
- 6Let crackers cool completely on the baking sheet. They will crisp more as they cool.
