Our Homemade Apple Sauce recipe is so quick and easy when you know how to make it, and a great addition to so many recipes. Choose chunky or smooth, and adjust to how sweet you like it. We give you step by steps to make this simple apple sauce at home in US & UK measurements. Perfect first food when weaning your baby, use a food processer to turn the sauce into a lump-free natural unsweetened apple puree.A perfect topping for desserts such as pancakes, waffles, pies, cakes, yoghurts and ice cream. Equally great served up as condiment with a Pork or Gammon Roast Dinner. Or try using as a substitute for oil, butter, or eggs in baking.

📝 Ingredients

  • 4 Apples - cored and chopped (4 Bramley cooking apples or 6 regular eating apples can be used)
  • 200 ml (1 cup) water (100 ml (1/2 cup) for a chunky sauce. 300 ml (1 1/2 cup) for a smooth puree.)
  • 1 3" Cinnamon stick or 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon (or try a vanilla pod, 1/4 tsp nutmeg or ginger instead)
  • 150 grams (3/4 cup) Granulated sugar (Optional (add none or less to your desired sweetness) See Notes for other ways to sweeten.)
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon juice (Optional, for extra tartness, to make last longer and maintain nice fresh colour.)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. 1Stew: Place chopped apple into a saucepan with the water and cinnamon stickBring to a boil then turn the heat down to simmer for 15 minutes
  2. 2Mash: Remove from heat. Take the cinnamon stick out and mash the apples up into desired texture. Use a masher for chunky or thick. Use a blender to turn it into an apple puree with no lumps.
  3. 3Sweetness: Taste test, if not sweet enough, add a tablespoon at a time of sugar, keep adding, until at the desired sweetness. Then add lemon juice.
  4. 4Simmer: Return to low heat and simmer for a further 5 mins, until the sugar has dissolved. Serve and enjoy!!
