What is WHR?

Waist-to-Hip Ratio compares the circumference of your waist to your hips. It indicates where your body stores fat and is linked to health risks.

WHO Health Risk Categories

For Men:

  • Below 0.9: Low health risk ✓
  • 0.9 - 1.0: Moderate risk
  • Above 1.0: High risk

For Women:

  • Below 0.8: Low health risk ✓
  • 0.8 - 0.85: Moderate risk
  • Above 0.85: High risk

Body Shapes

  • Apple shape: Higher WHR, more fat around middle
  • Pear shape: Lower WHR, more fat around hips

Apple shapes have higher cardiovascular risk than pear shapes.

How to Measure

Measure waist at narrowest point (usually belly button level). Measure hips at widest point around buttocks.
